What is HEIC / HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format)?
HEIC is the photo format of modern iPhones, small but poorly supported outside Apple devices.
If a website refuses your iPhone photo, converting HEIC to JPG solves it. This site can read HEIC but not create it, because of licensing.
File extensions: .heic, .heifMIME types: image/heic, image/heif
Advantages
- Half the size of JPG at similar quality
- Supports 10-bit color and transparency
- Stores depth and live photo data
Disadvantages
- Not displayed by most browsers
- Patent and licensing restrictions
- Many websites reject uploads
Typical uses
- iPhone photos
- Space-saving photo libraries
- Burst and live photos
Compatibility
Works on Apple devices and recent Windows and Android versions; browsers (except Safari) and many web forms cannot open it.

Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with local code. Your files never leave your device, and there is no upload.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no limit on our side, but your browser memory is. Images work for very large files; for videos, files above a few hundred megabytes can fail on devices with little memory.
Will the quality suffer?
That depends on the target format and settings. Use the quality option to balance size and detail; lossless targets keep everything the source contained.
Which browsers are supported?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Fast hardware paths are used where available, with a compatible fallback otherwise.
